Life in the village
A village comes alive through the people who call it home. From opening shutters to a morning coffee before work, afternoon gatherings, chats with neighbours or quiet moments in nature, every day brings its own rhythm.
Constance Village will grow gradually, step by step, to accommodate these daily experiences. Because a village is not built in a day. It comes to life over time, attuned to the rhythm of those who live there.

LEARN MORE
Since 2022, Constance Hospitality Management has operated from Constance Business Park. Designed by J.M. Eynaud Architects, the offices occupy a central position in Constance Village, reflecting a modern yet tropical interpretation of hospitality through light-filled architecture.
This established footprint offers a first glimpse of what the village is set to become: a place where work, living, shopping and everyday services blend together. The village is already taking shape in some places and its expansion is well underway.
Mall de l’Est
By 2027, Mall de l’Est will complement this momentum by introducing an attractive commercial, cultural and social hub, generating economic opportunities and essential services for residents of the East of Mauritius.
This retail and leisure destination will bring together a diverse mix of shops, daily conveniences, dining options and recreational spaces where residents, visitors and professionals can easily connect. Through its carefully curated offering and the involvement of local operators, it will drive the economic vitality of the region and foster homegrown enterprise.
Le Comptoir Café
Born from the Group’s commitment to breathing new life into its heritage and fostering connection in the East, Le Comptoir Café is housed in a former Chinese shop, an iconic feature of Mauritian sugar estates, now restored as a café-restaurant.
Launched in November 2021, the venue has quickly become a local favourite known for its venison burgers and homemade pastries. By 2027, Le Comptoir Café will further develop its offering to accommodate a growing clientele, linking closely with the upcoming office spaces in the historic heart.

Voices of the village
Before the plans, buildings and future projects, there is a place, a history and the people who bring it to life every day. Their stories describe Constance in their own words.
“Memories of days gone by in Constance”
I grew up in the sugar camp at Argy. My father worked at Constance as a sirdar.
At the age of 14, in April 1964, I secured my first job at Constance as a labourer. I set off to help repair roads, working alongside a sirdar named Mimi Zama.
My daily tasks involved carrying a basket, hauling stones and laying them on the road. After that, I did all kinds of work at Constance.
When I was 18 or 19, Messrs Michel d’Unienville and Guy Hardy offered me a job as a watchman. From that day forward, I worked solely in security. I was born on 26 March 1948 and today I am 78 years old.
One of my fondest memories here is the scent of fangourin lingering in the air, drifting from the trains carrying sugar from Beau Champ.
Vijay Kunthasami,
Watchman
“Between peace and activity, everything finds its balance.”
I feel a profound sense of peace and calm here, largely because Constance remains so green.
I always wanted to stay in the East, drawn to its lingering village spirit and old-world charm, and by warmth among people that I simply do not find elsewhere. There is a distinct spirit here. Everyone finds their place.
One of my happiest memories is opening my school, La Ruche Animée, which reflects the childhood I was privileged to experience here in Constance.
It was a truly special moment, as it was the reward for countless sacrifices. Some days I worked until two in the morning, painting drawings on the walls.
Larissa Pitot,
Director of La Ruche Animée
“These were simple, wholesome, joyful moments.”
I was born in Constance and I hope to spend the rest of my life here, in the East. My friends are here. Whether in Flacq or Constance, people know me and care about me. Here, race doesn’t matter.
If I were to show someone Constance, I would tell them to go for a walk. That is precisely what my colleagues from Beau Bois and Maison 1794 and I used to do.
I cherish wonderful memories of my youth here. Whenever a tractor driver asked if we wanted a ride, I would say yes! I would hitch a ride on the tractor all the way from the river to Central Flacq.
“One way ticket!”
These were simple, wholesome, joyful moments. We would watch butterflies, birds, young shoots and wildflowers. I know I lived my childhood to the full.

Former Constance Group/CLG Employee

Communityinvolvement
A village comes alive through the dedication of those who invest their time and energy within it. As Constance Village develops, residents, businesses, associations and local stakeholders will be invited to take part in community life.
The former sugar factory, a true bridge between eras, is being given a new lease of life through intergenerational workshops. Everyone can suggest ideas, take part, share knowledge and learn.
Events, local initiatives, cultural and sporting activities and projects celebrating nature and heritage all provide wonderful opportunities to connect and bring the space to life together. Because a village is about much more than just its buildings; it thrives through the people who care for it.
Education
For any family, choosing a place to live also means choosing where their children will grow up.
At Constance Village, schools are an integral part of daily life. Just a short walk from homes, green spaces and community areas, they offer children an environment where learning extends beyond the classroom.
Surrounded by open spaces, nature and the rich agricultural heritage of Constance, younger residents can observe, experiment and discover their environment through the seasons. A setting where everyday experiences become part of learning.
